KUBNUS is a nutcracker designed for walnuts and hazelnuts. We created KUBNUS, a small, playful wooden work of art. At first glance, it appears to be just a wooden cube, but upon closer examination, it reveals itself as a nutcracker.
By moving the handle upwards, an opening is created at the front, allowing a nut to be inserted. Moving the handle downward cracks the nut, returning the cube to its closed shape. The front side wall can be rotated until itβs held in place by a magnet, enabling the easy removal of the cracked nut. KUBNUS measures 8.5 cm x 8.5 cm and can be easily CNC-milled. The three wooden components are fastened together with a metal pin. Additionally, three 4mm bar magnets are embedded for convenient handling, and a small metal plate is located on the bottom of the lever to protect against friction.
Our priority was to design a durable, long-lasting product. With the inclusion of a small wooden insert, the same principle can also be used to crack hazelnuts.
KUBNUS comes in three variations: solid walnut, solid beech, and a walnut-beech ply glued together.
