With MYCOBLOCS, we have designed a 100% environmentally friendly architectural building system. We developed the concept, the blocks, the system, and created architectural visualizations. As designers, we believe it is our responsibility to create sustainable building material and systems, giving architects the option to work with 100% environmentally friendly materials.
Our parametric building block system is made entirely from natural materials.
The buildings would be 100% compostable.
These blocks are framed with wood and filled with growing mycelium, along with waste materials such as wood chips and hemp fibers. Once the mycelium has grown, the material serves multiple functions, acting as insulation, a load-bearing material, and providing a unique aesthetic. MYCOBLOCS are specifically engineered for use in prefabricated homes, allowing construction in a controlled workshop environment. The blocks are designed to interlock and grow together, ensuring structural stability throughout the entire building. The parametric design allows each block to take on a unique shape, offering limitless possibilities for architectural planning with MYCOBLOCS.
The interior visualizations showcase the mycelium atmosphere, while visualizations of parametric construction demonstrate the endless possibilities of our system.
Deep material research has given us a fundamental understanding of mycelium and proof of our concept.
At the end of the home’s lifecycle, the mycelium structure can be returned to nature, as mycelium naturally decomposes.
